Re: [boxer lovers] to breed or not to breed

Breeding has nothing at all with the affection or protection. Boxers are bred to be "Guard and Companion Dogs." Meg has not been bred but is as protective as any boxer I've had.

Its a function of age (don't expect a 9 wk or even 9 month old to be a watch dog) and situation unless training is involved. And unless you truly TRULY know what you are doing, the only training you should do with your boxer is obedience training.

Breeding any companion animal for any reason other than having a superior animal to enhance the breed is wrong. Enough boxers end up in rescue there is no reason to add more. Pets are available from show bred litters.

Subject: [boxer lovers] to breed or not to breed

hi all,

i have a new boxer puppy girl (9 weeks old now) - and my son suggested i breed her at least once (he has a boxer) - that it will make her more loyal/protective

i am undecided - i plan to get her fixed in July/August - so, unless i am convinced it will be better to breed her one time, i plan to continue to get her fixed - personally, i am still leaning towards spaying - i know that boxer puppies are very valuable, but i work full time and don't have the time to deal with breeding

i would appreciate any comments/opinions before i make my final decision
