Many black colors in strong sunlight will have a blue sheen ... Look at a human with black hair.

Back when I was showing "Reversed Brindle" wasn't used. I believe that term developed because of the number of boxers so deeply brindled they looked black and were many times highly flashy ... And that combo technically made them "out of standard" which was the flash not only had to be attractive but NO MORE THAN ONE THIRD OF THE GROUND COLOR. That meant, with very little fawn showing through as "ground color", a brindle with minimal flash would be "more than one third."

But the blue you mention is not the merle of the "blue boxer" ... if your dog was a "blue" first it would not have been registered with the AKC or UKC and second would have been more bluish gray -- gun metal gray -- than black.

To show "confirmation" a dog needs to be registered with the authorizing kennel club ... Except for possible fun shows.

Obedience, agility, etc, are considered "Performance" and still the dog must be registered with the authorizing kennel club but may be "out of standard" or neutered and still do performance.

Did you know AKC & ABC are starting to support herding classes for boxers?

When we lived in CO back in the 70's right before the AKC and the ABC accepted revered brindles, we bought a puppy bitch the was almost black and when the sun shown on her she had a blue coloring to her. She won some show but we never used her for breeding, she had a bad mouth.
