Re: [boxer lovers] Re: Crate Size for Adult Boxer

When you give a boxer a good reason (and that can be pleasing you) you can teach them anything at any time. I taught a 9yr old to "belly crawl" like a patrol dog.

Crates need to be made fun and safe. Easiest is to give them treats ONLY in their crate. Set it up. Leave it open. Teach them "in your bed" by saying that while urging them into the crate with a treat. If you give them long term treats (like Kongs or Nyla bones) make sure they stay there while enjoying. My dogs learned the crates were safe retreats. ‎When I had guests (especially those with children), no one was allowed to bother them once they headed for the crate. Some people also feed their dogs in crates so they associate the crates with Good Times.

Can you crate train a 1 year boxer? Or is it too late? What are the benefits of having a crate?
