It will be a little harder training an older dog to go in the crate but it is possible. I crate my dogs when I go away because I know when I get home they will be in the crates nice and safe. They won't be laying on the floor dead with an electrical cord in their mouth or anything else that they got into an chewed up. There are other good reasons to have a dog crate trained. If you ever had an emergency with flooding, tornado, or anything like that it is very helpful if your dog is crate trained.
