Does anyone know if the medicines in the triple Antibiotic ointment will cause problems if you put it in the eyes of your pets....? Apparently the meds are the same as in NeoSporin
Bacitracin Zinc, Neomycin Sulfate and Polymyxin B Sulfate
The reason I asked is because a few of our baby kittens in the past have had that goowy stuff in their eyes and I put a bit of the ointment in their eyes and it healed them with just one application...
And the other day my boxers, Marcus and Boo and Maggie were play fighting and somehow one of the girls must have scratched Marcus's eye because he started favoring it..and either blinking or keeping it shut.... I noticed it and opened his eye to see what the problem was and it has a verticle line of reddish brown in the golden brown part of his eye...not the pupil but the color around that...and along side of the reddish line it is cloudy a bit... I was worried it would get infected so I use eye wash to wash it out and the next day I put some of the ointment in his eye... the next time I looked he had his eye open...and has been opening it every day and acting like it is ok but when he goes to sleep he wakes up with goowy stuff in his eye. So I again wash it out with eye wash and it is ok again until he goes to sleep....this has been going on for a couple days now... His eye is not swollen anywhere and he seems to be able to see out of it ...but I
just yesterday noticed it said not to put the ointment in eyes...I did that two times already and was wondering if some of the meds in the ointment are too strong for the eye tissue... Marcus does not seem to be having any ill effects from it and his eye is getting better but I was worried about putting any more of it since I saw it says not to on the box....Has anyone else used this ointment this way before?Annette
