Re: [boxer lovers] Thoughts on handling putting a pet down

Whenn I had my greyhound rescues. Chili had been with Jake since she came off off the track att 18months. She was 9 when I had too put him down. When I took him to the vet I used his favorite blanket to lift him, I waited much to long to have him put down I juust couldnnt do it. Chili seemed to know by the smell of the blanket that Jake was gone. Normally she would run from window trying to get out if she didn't know where he was. Once he was on tv with my daughter I had to stay home from work to meep her from hurting herrself. When he died she started dleepping oon his blanket but she was calm

>First, PLEASE know I am NOT planning to put either of my dogs down any time soon. Sadly, though, my boxers are 8 and 9 years old. This means that this decision may soon be upon me. I hate it but I begin to notice my babies slowing down and more and more white creeping into the muzzles.

I had also read that, if they are able to physically see and smell the dog which has passed on, they mourn les time. I had discussed with my family about the time to come when we will lose one of our dear boxers.

I feel that it makes sense to see that the surviving dog would acknowledge the loss of their packmate but knowing, for certain, that their packmate was gone, would not be searching for their packmate and watching for them to come home.
