Re: [boxer lovers] integrating my dog with other dogs

The boxer boxing thing can put other breeds off.  I try and keep my dogs well socialized but Bella (my now almost 11 year old rescue I have had her since she was 6)  loved my daughters Aussie but he would hide under a bush when they were outside if she started to play box.   It was her invitation to play, it was painful to him.  My dogs often play with my oldest daughters young boxer and I would keep her bullmastiff when they went out of town.  They also play and see my other daughter 2 young pitts, all dogs go to a training class with lots of other dog breeds.  When I went to the shelter to get the brother and sister duo last March, they are 7, I took Bella with me.  After I was sure I wanted them, (it was love at first sight on my part and it would seem theirs).  I let them meet out side the APL after some butt sniffing they went about smelling other things.  I loaded them, all 3 in the suv and they all were so happy to go for a ride they paid little attention to each other.  I expected them to get along here at home and they have.  Bella is sometimes bossy with the other two but they seem to pay no attention to her bossy-ness
I see Bella getting old, slowing down, not wanting to go for her walks, after a bit she wants to turn and come home.
It is time for Bella's shots and yearly check  up,  I only want to get her the rabies, it is this year.  I think she is just to old to have the rest, hard on her body.

Subject: [boxer lovers] integrating my dog with other dogs

Can anyone teach me how to integrate my 7 yr. old female boxer, Layla with other dogs?I rescued her at 10 months. She was living in an unheated, unairconditioned garage, 24 hours a day. I've let her go up to other dogs, but she does the boxer punching paws play thing and every dog I've tried to introduce her to starts growling. Layla, I think is very nervous around other dogs or even when she sees one while she looking outside. Her hair goes up, she whimpers, barks,is fidgety, and I swear she shakes a little. I've tried helping her through these episodes by petting her, hugging her, speaking calmly, telling her it's ok. I've also tried scolding her, removing her from the window, covering her eyes, LOL, tell her no bark, all to no avail. Can someone help me? Oh, also she is afraid of water!
