You are an angel, my dear. The thing we HATE in rescue is when someone brings us an old dog and tells us they have to surrender him or her. Sadly, it is often because they have or soon plan to buy a new puppy and it just doesn't work. We smile and take the dog to keep it out of the shelter and because, if we don't we won't see the new puppy in his turn. People like you are the wonderful folks we adore for the loving homes you give these seniors!

I am all for breeders, my older sister had dogs and showed them when I was young. I spent lots of time at dog shows all over the country. When I was married and my kids were young I spent lots of money on dogs from breeders, I also had some rescues sometimes. Now at my age (66) I want to give older dogs a good life rather then maybe spending time at a pound or APL. It is just them and me with the blessing of grandkids on the weekends. The day I brought Yukon and Gemini home my 16 year old grandson spent the night He slept on the floor with the dogs because he was afraid they may be frightened (they weren't). He stayed up all night wiping Yuk's nose, it had nasty green mucus all most all the time. ( I couldn't get them to the vet until the next day). The bond between Nick and Yuk is now so strong. The dog loves him. Nick is a big high school line man for the football team. When he is here the dog is glued to him. Nick will lay on the couch with the dog sleeping on him or with his feet on top of the dog

I am a HUGE supporter of rescue. And I always love the good rescue stories. Sadly, there are many which don't turn out so well. I cannot watch that show. I would have spent a fortune on new TVs. I make a point to change the channel FAST if I happen upon it or anything like it.
I LVOE rescue and, having spent some time as a foster family, I just think there is a special place in heaven for rescuers and for the Forever Homes.
Having said that, and with NO attempt to discourage rescue, I also recognize that, if we are to keep our breed and see it improve, we also need to make certain that legitimate, responsible breeders are also supported.

As I watch how badly some dogs have it. I look down at my 3 senior boxer rescues. One sleeping on the couch the other 2 are sleeping by my chair. I wonder what their lives might have been like before they came to my home. Had they suffered anything like the dogs on the show? I know they were sick and under weight, and Bella had infected bit wounds on her face. They are so loving, friendly, funny and happy now, and at the moment sleepy.
