THANK YOU! I feel better. And, yes, puppy buyers do catch a LOT of grief!
And, often, that is why they go to the paper. No one gives them good info
and they start with "Buying a puppy is the same thing as killing a dog". It
is amazing how many people will actually SAY that.
I have worked in rescue, my family has and does have rescue dogs. If I add
to my dog family, it will be a pet dog from a show breeder. I don't have the
financial ability to deal with major health problems and, frankly, I have
had several rescue dogs who have had them and watching the succumb to those
problems, after relatively short lives is heartbreaking. I just cannot deal
with that again. That is ME.
I do hate when puppy buyers are attacked. I would much peer to educate them.
we need to encourage our good breeders and support them. the goal is to
rescue the dogs in need and encourage those who are improving the breed.
hopefully, those TWO approaches will result in fewer badly bred dogs and
more better bred dogs. I am not naïve enough to think that will happen fast
but that IS the goal
The idea that everyone should only adopt rescue means all the boxers being
adopted are spayed and neutered and that, too means no good breeders. I much
prefer education.

Karon thank you for a great post! There is so much push to get a rescue that
those who do buy a puppy from a reputable breeder are mentally attacked! I
talked to 2 different people this weekend who wanted puppies(of different
breeds, neither Boxer) and I listened to the crap they have been putting up
with from others about it because they were not considering a rescue. There
is nothing wrong with wanting/buying a puppy from a reputable breeder
instead of getting a rescue! Also if someone does want something older than
a puppy, a breeder is still a good source as a good breeder rescues their
own puppies! I got my standard Poodle from a breeder, she had gotten him
back when they had to unexpectally move overseas. I have this dogs entire
history.
