Re: [boxer lovers] Re:lMy 6 mo. old boxer

Heather, I have 2 cockers who eat raw and have for 4 years. They get kelp as a supplement . egg shells (GROUND),eggs,  fish oil, vit e(natural) and  digestive enzymes with pro biotics. They get chicken breast, chicken legs, beef, pork, turkey, lamb sometimes, and organ meat - kidney and liver. No enhanced meat or skin. Sometimes sweet potatoes and pumpkin. My dog gets runny poop even when I add some kibble to the boxers diet. Also with the grain free kibble very bad gas.

Hi Anneli,

When you say he is getting two other meals of raw meat, what exactly are you feeding? If it's just meat, it does need some calcium, but we have to be careful with puppies as they do not have the ability to excrete excess calcium, but too little is also very risky. It's not recommended that puppies be given a lot of the raw meaty bones, but they do need the calcium balanced with the phosphorus for proper development. What makes you say sensitive stomach? Is he vomiting or having diarrhea? I waited to give my puppy raw until she was 7 months old, but from day one I had her on the Missing Link Puppy formula, which does have ingredients to help digestion. When I introduced her to raw, I started with Stella and Chewy's patties. Not all dogs will tolerate raw, but it could also be an issue with the particular meat. If you are not doing the full research on home feeding, I would stick with commercial food for your boy, especially while he is growing.
Honest Kitchen has a mix you can add raw meat to and there are several high quality raw diets out there like Stella and Chewy's, Instinct or Bravo.

Subject: [boxer lovers] Re:lMy 6 mo. old boxer

Hi I have a 6 mo. old boxer . Most days he gets 1 cup of kibble and 2 other 8 oz. meals of raw meat .He has had 2 puppy vaccines and no rabies shot as of yet. He weighs 45 pounds and has lots of energy. .He seems to have a very sensitive stomach with the raw food. Any suggestions?
