Actually, the precautions regarding raw meat for people are completely
inapplicable when it comes to our dogs or cats. There are a LOT of
intestinal illnesses that cross contamination from raw meat and cause
problems for people. For the most part, they present little to no problem
for dogs and cats. Our pets have FAR more powerful digestive systems than
we. This is how they can crunch banes and digest them, completely among
other things. The acids and enzymes in the digestive tracts can handle OH SO
much more than ours.
Raw is a wonderful thing for our dogs. Pets are basically recyclers. If your
dog has joint problems, feed them raw food with cartilage in it. the dog's
body will pull out those nutrients to improve their own joints. Anemia can
be helped feeding the dog liver and so on.
Dogs are a wonderful way to dispose of meats that have been in the freezer
too long, have gone sour, dried out or picked up funky flavors in the
freezer.
Bil-Jac is a good food. I use it quite often. But, the first, best food for
them is closer to the cow, if possible. And dogs can eat every part of the
animal including skin, bones, organs and so on.

Subject: [boxer lovers] Re: WANTED: INFORMATION ON WHAT YOU FEED YOUR BOXERS
Hi Abby,
We currently have 8 Boxers, the oldest is approx 12, the youngest are 23
month old sisters. We feed Bil-Jac. If your vet has completely cleared the
health, I wouldn't panic over being on the thin side. Just like people, the
build, the amount of exercise, metabolism, can all effect the weight. One
of our 23 month old girls is in beautiful weight, the other is on the thin
side. The thinner one eats larger meals, gets a peanut butter sandwich
every afternoon, and gets extra treats. She also makes 3 trips around the
yard for every 1 trip that her sister makes. You will also find that as
they mature and fill out that most Boxers will gain weight easier and
quicker.
I personally would not recommend feeding raw meat. All of the reasons that
humans are cautioned against for eating raw meat also apply to your pets.
So I would be very cautious of that.
Hope this helps.
