Sorry to hear re your pups injury. I used to let my 3 dogs run off leash in the forest and 2 of them sustained front leg injuries, one was a torn ligament vet diagnosed, the other was a pull of some kind and was not intially diagnosed, they happened a year or 2 apart, different dog parks. One had to be in a cast in order to heal properly, as resting was not enough, the other just needed complete and total rest. It took about 6 monthes to heal for each and they had very limited movement during that time, on leash exercise and training and no jumping, we have only a few stairs at our place and I would carry them up and down. The one that wore the cast had to be carried outside to pee for weeks then on leash only for the first couple monthes. My preformance boxer took 6 monthes to heal completely too, and it was all on leash outside with no running or rambunctious playing, I pulled her out of shows and competetions too, it was really, really heartbreaking. I tried both times just letting them take it easy for a few weeks or a month and then it would get better and then they would run and play and re-injure it again and limp slightly and then I would let them take it a bit easy again for a week or 2 or more and it was not enough to have them really heal. For my dogs they really needed rest and time to heal completely and I learned a couple super valuable lessons. Letting them off leash at the dog park can be really dangerous and they can get really hurt. I learned not to let my active competetion dog get hurt by taking chances with her and if she does do not rush her to heal give her plenty of time to recover thoroughly. I also used a product called Recovery, it worked perfectly and my dogs are perfect now. That was my experience.
Yvonne.
