Sorry, I was being flippant. But, it really is true. And for dogs too. Fiber is the part of food you cannot digest. So it does clean out your system. It acts like an internal brush and grabs other things as it goes. For us, it is the fiber parts of meat. The actual muscle fiber sheath. When you make stock, for instance, you cook all the goodie (as my husband calls it) out of the meat. All that is left, that looks like meat, is the muscle fiber sheath and that is the part you cannot digest. The cell walls of fruits and veggies. You'll find a lot of that in dried fruits. That is why prunes are SO good for you! all of that is fiber. The outside husks of whole grains. Your body cannot digest them so they clean you out instead. Ever notice whole kernels of corn when you pass things? (gross, I know) but, that is because those kernel shells are now empty of the digestible corn and return the way they went in. it's not really corn but the shell.
Anyway, that is what fiber really IS. The best fiber for dogs is things like animal fur and feathers. They cannot well digest it but, it will clean them out<G> but, not a lot.
I feed raw and the whole idea is to feed, on average, a prey diet. That means feeding them, in proportion, even if over a period of time, the same things they would eat if they killed an animal and ate it. that includes organs, innards and skin with feathers and fur but they never eat all the skin with feathers and fur. But, the small amount they do eat serves to clean their systems.
Ok, end of lecture and apologies for the flippancy.

Sorry I guess the query re the " a novel and high fiber people food diet" was directed at Stephanie Overby as she stated that it had helped somewhat with clearing up her boxer skin but eventually his GI problems returned I believe she said. I have never heard of a high fibre people food diet for a dog before and wondered what it was ?
Thank you Yvonne
