Re: Food for Doxies

Hello everyone,
I am new to the list and been watching the thread for Food for Doxies. I have the opposite problem, can't get mine to eat, well he eats when HE wants to. I have a 12 week old puppy, who kept a schedule of meals, and the food that the breeder told us to get. For first three weeks we had him, he refused to eat it, or chose to eat at lunch, skipped breakfast, if he skipped lunch, he would barely eat dinner, and the next day could be totally opposite. I switched to Eukanuba puppy because that was what we used with our Lab. Our little guy still won't eat at his scheduled time to eat. How can I get him to eat? our vet says he is fine in weight wise. Just worries me because I am used to our hoov.. err Labrador who will gobble up his food quick. I would be happy to try anything to get him to eat, Should I try to free feed him, the breeder recommended to try that. I have been watching the thread, just would be happy to have a puppy eating a normal meal at a normal time.. though I lab loves it when he doesnt eat..looks at the doxie's dish and looks up at me.. mmm second's is what is going through our lab's head.
Thank you in advance,
Carol

Treats are important around here.  I buy some bone-shaped dachshund treats--23 cal each.  I break/cut each one into 4-5 pieces.  I even bought some Milk-bone mini bones--5 cal ea-- and break them in half.  They just need a taste and a bit of a crunch.  Oh, and turkey weiners.  I slice them into tiny 1/4 to 1/8th inches as special treats for special obedience.  [STOP/WAIT, or COME NOW]!

And I read the boxes every time.  I don't buy "made in China"  If they will poison their own children, what makes me think they will be more careful of my pets.

My local Sav-a-Lot gets in treats and foods from Canada, Brazil, Mexico etc.  I am careful of the Mexico-labels, but the others are good and the dogs love them--and I can break most of them in  pieces to lower the cal content.

You're welcome.

Remember, don't give your dachsie many treats or feed her from the table! Measure out her food. and resist those melting brown eyes. My girl was a standard, and she got one cup of food a day, no more, no less.

I used baby carrots as a treat, never any commercial treat. My dachsie was nuts for carrots. She liked other vegetables, but carrots were her favorite.

Good luck!
