Hi Sue,
I am just now reading this post and have not read any of those posted after this one...so take that into consideration while reading this one... :O)
To answer your question... No I don't have any pups that are "show prospects" as such... I believe my boxers are very nice but I am not qualified to say that any of them could or could not be shown...EXCEPT .. the Blue ones...of which we have two... there are 7 other colors and I would not pretend to know if they had qualities that would make them possible to show. I suppose you can show any dog if you want to but it is wise to know what you are looking for in a puppy if you are wanting to show it...And again I don't show and my dogs have not come from show stock.
I have Boo's mom and dad and she is a pup from their first litter of boxers and only litter, other than hers, now, that I have had. She is 3 1/2.. so you can see I am not in the business of raising litters...
I had no knowledge of what a blue boxer was when Boo and her sister Taupee showed up in that litter from two regular colored Boxer parents...I have spent the time since she was born researching and talking to knowledgeable people about what a blue boxer is and what the draw backs are that have made some people so upset with the idea of having them or breeding them...
The problem is that ALL blue boxers and their regular colored siblings carry a recessive blue gene... only when two parents that carry this gene are mated do you get any blue puppies... the catch and where the risk comes in is that with that blue gene also goes a gene for Alopecia ( hair loss skin problem) gene... ALL blues carry this gene but NOT ALL get Alopecia... there is no way, as of now to know for sure that the pup will or wont get Alopecia... it is a skin problem and is not fatal like many other genetic problems....The areas that are blue gray of the dog can lose hair or have it broken off.. it can be treated but from what I have read not cured. I have emailed a Professor Leeb Tosso, at the University of Bern in Switzerland and he is working on trying to find out what factors have to come together for the blue dog to get this problem...At the same time as this CAN happen with the blues there are many people in many different breeds that are breeding the blues trying to develop lines that are Alopecia free...
Also the regular colors in these litters do not get the Alopecia but can pass the gene to there litters even when no blues are born...This gene, since it is recessive, can go for generations undetected until two dogs that carry it mate and then blue pups are in that litter... That is what happened with our dogs...
I bought two boxers from 150 miles apart in hopes to not get any from the same lines and I was told that the male's father was a blue brindle...and they said that in certain light he looked blue...at the time I thought they were exaggerating since I had never heard of a blue boxer . That is all I was told or knew... I bought him as a mate to my female...not knowing that she too carried the blue gene, nor did her breeder know it cause she had never had any blue puppies from her dogs...so there you are... I had a litter with two blue puppies and I was getting conflicting information from everywhere so I had to research it out myself to find out what I had...
Boo, the mother of this litter I have.. that also has two blue pups in it... is a beautiful Flashy blue brindle and two of her pups are blues(gray blue brindle) also... one I think is going to be a Reverse brindle in Gray and light fawn... I also have two regular reverse brindle and five regular brindle.. two which are flashy...
Unless you want a lot of static and to spend a lot of time explaining to people what the problems are with the blue boxer you would be better not to buy one... :O) because that is what I have gotten...but I love Boo she is beautiful..I get compliments everywhere I go with her because of her color and she is a beautiful boxer as well...
Anyway I am always available to ask questions about the blue boxers if someone is interested in what I have found out...Most of which I have written here..
So the Risk in getting a blue is:
Yes it carries, a non fatal, genetic disease that May or May not show up in any certain blue dog... From what I read it shows up the most often in between the years of 2 and 3 years old... that is why I have waited this long to breed Boo... she has no signs of it at all at this point in time...and I have checked with the people that bred her grandfather, that was blue, and he died in between ages 9-10 years without any signs of Alopecia either... I could not find out where the blue gene came from on her mother's side because it has been recessive (hidden) for years apparently.
So there it is...the regular color pups carry the gene but will not be affected by it..so if you are looking for a beautiful boxer pup for a pet, that you plan on spaying or neutering... any of the 7 reg colored pups would be great for you.. all my dogs have great personalities, are loving and great companions...
But if you anticipate showing the puppy you buy in the show ring...because even the white are accepted in competition by AKC.....then you need to contact one of many show dog breeders...I am sure someone can guide you to a good one in your area..
There is another thing that makes a difference also ...I don't ship my puppies... I want to be the one to hand my puppy to it's new owner...and I don't like the idea of not knowing what happens in the transfer of them by air or transport...So a person will have to make arrangements to come pick the puppy they pick up... and several have come and done just that... and are very happy with their now full grown boxers...
Hope this helps you understand a little more about the Blue Boxers...
and Good Luck finding a puppy that will fit into your home and life...

With only one dog you would want to maybe only cook fewer amount of it at a time..so it stays fresh for him to eat...

I would not give raw of either but I have given them some of our meats cooked with onions and garlic in it...and they did not seem to have any ill effects.. but I limit it and if in doubt it is best not to give it to them.. :O)

"please mom, we haven't eaten in at least a week maybe more" LOL Maggie and Marcus will just wait until they think we are not going to give them anything or I tell them no more...but Boo is not quite as patient...if she sits there giving us that look for a little bit with not response from us... she give us a little nudge with UMMMM ....wait.... UMMMM ...wait...UMMMM it is cute and I don't mind cause if I want them to stop or go away they will when I tell them to... lol

I was wondering if any of you give your boxers any table food? I know that foods such as grapes, chocolate, raisins, etc are bad for them so I stay away. I do sometimes give him chicken or eggs. Do you think this is ok?
