RE: [boxer lovers] Puppy

If you are absolutely set on a puppy, I will tell you what I have told many,
many people in the past. Go to shows. Look at champion lines and buy a puppy
from those lines.

Yes, it will be much more expensive. Yes, you can buy a cheaper puppy in the
paper. Yes you can find a puppy at the local pet store. But the long term
price you will pay in vet bills not to mention the tears and heartache of
watching your beloved dog become ill, is not worth the savings.

Become familiar with what makes a good boxer and the emotional needs and
behavioral characteristics of boxers. Make sure you and your young child are
up to it.

there is a reason rescues don't adopt to homes with young children. Rescue
dogs often need a great deal of work and attention to adapt. With a young
child, especially if you are considering a second child, that can leave the
dog forgotten. Please consider that before you bring home another dog.

I had a dog when my children were born. He was 3 years old and helped me
raise my babies. I don't think I could have handled a puppy AND a baby. Both
of my daughters are now grown and my dogs are now my children. Believe me,
there is plenty of time to raise a pup after the child is older. Don't get
into a hurry to do both at once.

Also, when considering where to find your dog, remember you DO have
children. you need to be sure that you don't add a dog who has emotional
issues to a family with a small child. It can endanger your child as well as
putting the dog in a position of possibly going back to rescue at best.

Above all, remember, you are not Superwoman. You DON'T have to do it all at
once. Raising kids is tough. Raising puppies is tough. Doing both at once is
even tougher. If there is a happy family with a healthy companion dog, be
Thankful and love them all. If you find you really have the time and
resources for a puppy, make certain that you find a puppy that fits well
with your family, will be a happy puppy and will not be a drain on your
resources.

Good luck and let us know how things go for you!

Subject: [boxer lovers] Puppy

Hi.

I am doing research on adopting or looking at breeders, I have not found
either here on Long Island NY.
My husband & I are looking for a female puppy, we want a female because our
male shar pei Curtis does
Not like male dogs, Curtis is neutered. Our daughter will be 3 at the end
of March & so far I see a lot of rescues
Will not adopt an older boxer to a family with a child under 5.
Does anyone have any advice? We are not in a rush for a puppy, we were
hoping to have a little bundle of puppy
Love by late spring.
Thank you.
LoriAnn
Curtis: black brush coat shar pei 6 years old
Mia: fawn sharpei my angel in heaven, I miss you every moment of the day.
