I am glad it got you a little excited! They are absolutely amazing dogs! The best of the best, in my opinion. When Heidi was little, she slept with us - along with the other two. As she got bigger, the bed got too crowded and as the other two are much older, we got Heidi her own big, comfy pillow and she sleeps on that at the foot of our bed. When my fiancee' leaves for work, she sneaks up into the bed and sleeps in his spot - even uses his pillow! If you contact a good rescue, they will "interview" you, meet your family and match the best dog to your family, etc. They do a superb job with that! It is nice to adopt one a bit older as the housetraining is done as is the vetting (spay/neuter/shots, etc.).. If you like, I can contact our local rescue (rescues network with other rescues, etc.) and perhaps they can get you pointed to a rescue more local to you and help you get the ball rolling anyway. If you haven't adopted before, it is a
whole new experience. Many rescues take their time in matching the best possible scenario to you they can. Even if you chose to adopt one a year old or so, that is a puppy with all the puppy mannerisms, but many of those challenging puppy issues already out grown. Go to your local PetSmart or Pet Supplies Plus and purchase a book on the breed. I purchased several (I guess I am a bit OCD on that) and learn as much as you can/want to ahead of time. Over the last year, I have referred to my books several times. It has also been proven that placing a younger dog with an older dog gives the older dog a "second wind" for life and they often become puppies again. Additionally, it is known to expend the life expectancy of dogs to have at least one other dog to live with. My beagle wasn't supposed to live past a few weeks and he is 4 1/2 years old, and fat and sassy! LOL Anyway, I wrote a book again! Let me know if I can help you get
started! I would love to see a successful new home for a deserving Boxer baby!!

Hi Valerie,
Boxers sound more like the dog we need...my daughter loves to play with our
shar pei, but he has been depressed since our other pei Mia passed away,
actually we are all heart broken.
But your story lifted my spirits.
We don't know if we should get a puppy or a young dog? My male pei needs a
bossy lady in his life, lol. A boxer seems like the kind of dog who can
match his play style too. He can get rough, but just chill & sleep on the
couch too.
Are they dogs that like to cuddle? Sleep in the bed with you? Lol, both my
pei as they got older prefered there own beds, they are spoiled brats.
I have not researched rescues or breeders in NY,long island area.
I don't want to contact anyone until we are ready.
Thanks.
