Re: [boxer lovers] Re: Consumer Reports - Retractable leashes pose problems for people and their pets

Personally, I believe they must be banned from public places - especially retail stores (Pet Smart, etc.) as I have seen countless instances where a bystander is tripped and is put at risk for obvious injury.  The liability goes from just the manufacturer to now include the handler and the store, too.  They seemed like a good idea but so many things have started out that way but was later determined to be hazardous, etc.  It would be nice if the manufacturers would simply discontinue them, but they will not.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and please everyone, be safe!

Merry Christmas!

When I attened Dog Scout Camp (first camp early 1990's) we were instructed that the retractable leashes were banned at camp. I had never seen one and did not know what they were and was too busy getting settled to ask questions. I now have a very elderly landlady and she walks two 20lb dogs, both on retractable leashes. I am so glad you posted this info. I do not know if she will listen but I will share this info with her. Thank you so very much!
