Hello! My name is Deidre and I am contacting you from the Wisconsin Humane Society. We have 2 Dachshunds here that we are looking to find placement for and thought we would try reaching out to your organization.
First we have Misty who is a 5 year old Mini Dachshund. Misty has been very scared since arriving in the shelter, although she has been nervous she has cautiously approached our staff and hasn't shown any aggression here however she has been very uncomfortable with touch. The previous owners did state that she was sometimes aggressive towards visitors in the home and has nipped multiple times at people. Misty also has a history of growling over food. Misty did live with a cat in the previous home and did well with the cat. Also, there was a 1 year old child in the previous home and the owner stated that Misty spent time and/or played with the child. Previous owner also stated that Misty seems to be scared when she is alone and will bark and chew. We feel that since Misty is so uncomfortable in the shelter environment that breed placement would be a better option for her.
Also, we have a small little girl here named Lala, a 3 years old Dachshund mix. The people who surrendered her to us told us that she was a Dachshund/Cocker Spaniel mix. (She just looks way to small to be mixed with much Cocker at all.) She probably weighs between 5 and 9 pounds - very petite girl. This person was surrendering Lala because she didn't have enough time for her. This person had received Lala from another family a year ago. Lala lived with a 3 year old child and another dog. She was fine with both of them. However, they did say that she was sometimes growl or bark at male visitors or other dogs she would see on walks. Here, Lala is just terrified. The shelter environment is proving to be overwhelming to her. During her temperament assessment she froze during the look test, where we gently cup their chins to look in their eyes. She also is nervous at any touch. She did fine on her food test and dog to dog test. In fact, it looks like she really likes other dogs. I went to meet Lala today, and it took her a little while to warm up to me. Once she did, she climbed in my lap, but just wouldn't stop shaking. Her shaking reminded me so much of the shaking that Chihuahuas do, but it took over her whole body. She eventually greeted the photo taker, but was cautious about approaching anyone new. With her fearfulness, we are hoping a rescue placement is her best shot.
I have included pictures of both Misty and Lala. If you could get back to us either way if your rescue could possibly take them, we'd appreciate it!
Thank you,
Deidre
