Hi everyone,

I rescued this dog about 6 weeks ago; she looks like a Dachshund mixed with a bit of Pit Bull…..she's short and long with funky turned-out front legs….she has a serious looking tiny-sized pit bull face but she's far from a pit bull in any other way.  She's put together so strangely that everyone laughs when they see her….she's adorable.  She was severely underweight and had large bleeding sores on both ears from fly bites.  She must have been confined outdoors in unsanitary conditions and finally found an opportunity to break away from her neglectful owner.  She was on the side of the road eating what appeared to be a dirty diaper so I named her "Pampers".  J

I had the intent to keep her as my own.  I got her vaccinated, licensed, spayed, de-wormed and she is currently on heartworm prevention and Frontline flea/tick preventative……she is now at a great weight (about 27# and won't get any bigger) and a picture of health….I'm guessing her to be about 11 months old.  She's an extremely happy dog, loves everyone, including children and other dogs, and has learned basic commands….she's very smart and also appears to be housebroken.  Here's the problem:

I already have one dog, a female Mastiff named Delta who is around 2 years old.  When I initially took Pampers home, all was fine….she and Delta ran through the yard and house and played, played, played.  Delta let Pampers steal all her toys and push her around with incident…….until.  Pampers must have pushed Delta's button past her limit, or maybe Delta just finally realized she didn't have to let a 8 inch high, 27# dog rule her roost, but whatever it was, Delta came unglued and a fight (no blood) was on.  In the dog world, that is normal as long as there is no injury (which there wasn't)….dogs have to establish who gets to be the dominant one of the "pack".  Well, the feisty Dachshund "small dog syndrome" showed through in Pampers and she wouldn't back off Delta…….not a good idea since Delta could eat her for lunch if she wanted to.

Rather than risk injury to Pampers, I brought her back to the shelter and she is comfortably hanging out here until she finds a permanent home with either no other dogs or a submissive dog that doesn't mind letting her be the "alpha dog" of the house.  If you are interested or you know of a GOOD HOME looking for a great little dog, please let me know.  You can e-mail me or call me for further information.
