Chancy just thinks he's a killer and feels it's his duty to protect his family from those dreaded squirrels and chipmunks. :-) Twice last weekend he had one of those big groundhogs cornered against our fence. He barked like crazy and lunged a lot, but I don't think he knew what to do next... especially when the ground hog held his ground and continued to screech at him. He likes to chase but is unsure how to follow through, which gives us ample time to rescue whatever he's cornered. Inside the house he's very lazy and with people he's a gentle giant. In fact I've never seen a dog take food more gently from someone's hand in my life. He just hasn't mastered the concept of momentum and thinks he can stop sooner than he does when he comes running into the house after playtime. If you don't look out, he'll mow you over, regardless of your age or his intent. :-) Chancy will go after and kill flies though, so we really have to watch him to keep him away from the bees as well.
Hope you're all cooler that we've been here lately in upstate NY!

The worst injury happened after we first rescued him and we were tying him when we went outside until we could determine if he'd take off. One day, I'd just got the hook onto his collar. He saw a chipmunk and bolted. I couldn't move fast enough to get the rope from around my ankle. This was the result (not for the weak of heart :-)

What is cute in a puppy and maybe acceptable with a small poodle (because they can't hurt you as much or be as destructive) is not even a little acceptable in a dog hitting 50 or more pounds with a lot of muscle mass behind them.
