Yep, you can feed bones. Any of the animal bones. The only ones I would shy
from are the leg bones of large ungulates like cow or bison. Those bones are
extremely dense and can break a dog's teeth. Other than that, you are OK. As
for raw pork, humans should never eat it. but dogs don't have a problem with
it. they have much stronger stomach acids and enzymes than humans do.
Mixing meats is not a problem. It really does not matter. When you have a
question, stop and ask yourself, would/could a wolf eat this in the wild? If
the answer is yes, then your dog can eat it. it's that simple.

Morning Karon
There isnt a problem with feeding raw bones? I have been buying the boneless
thighs, etc., because I was concerned about choking or not being able to be
digested and causing a rupture or something. I have always heard about never
any raw pork - do the dogs natural enzymes handle raw pork ok? I am going on
all those old beliefs, so need to be brought up to date.
Do the raw bones actually help with calcium and chondroitons, etc. for my
dog??? Whatever additional information u can give me on this, would be great
and much appreciated.
I have 2 vets at the clinic I take my 3 yr old brindle to -- one vet is iffy
on raw, the other says its "ok". The vet who is the most recent out of vet
school is the one who is iffy on feeding raw - she said she still hasnt seen
enough positive on effects of feeding raw.
All I know is that since I started feeding Gunnar raw green tripe and other
raw meats, he has literally "blossomed" -- has gotten bulkier and he has
always tended to be a leaner, taller type Boxer - now he is so buff and
gorgeous -- I get compliments on him no matter where I take him.
Thank u Karon --
have a pleasant day -- would like to hear about your Boxers...

You can feed ANY meat. If it moves, a dog will eat it. the easiest thing to
start feeding is chicken. Easy on the digestion and easy to find and easy on
the budget.
When figuring how much, you need a little math. If you have a pup, look at
the current weight. We are talking about a growing dog so they need extra
energy. So, for puppies, feed 10% of body weight across several meals in the
day. Now, you want to think of the projected body weight of the adult dog.
When fully grown, you will want to feed 3% of the total projected body
weight. You make the changeover as the dog grows.
So, your dog, as a pup, is fed 10% of his body weight. Until such time as
that 10% is equal to the same amount as the projected 3% will be. That is
when you stay with the projected 3%.
So, you have a 10# puppy. 10% of that is one pound. Feed the dog 1# of food
per day over the course of the day. You expect the adult dog to be about
50#. So, at 50#, the 3% feed amount will be 1.5 pounds of meat per day. When
your dog reaches 15# body weight, his 10% feed amount is 1.5#. that is when
you stay at 1.5# per day. No more math unless the dog grows larger, then,
adjust up for the increased size of the dog.
I hope this helps. If, as a pup, the dog seems to be having trouble eating
the chicken bones, take a meat tenderizer and break up the bones and make
them more bite sized so they can be handled. As the dog grows, they will be
better able to take on the bones but you may have to help a bit at first.
