RE: [boxer lovers] Is raw food the best

thank u so much Karon --
I have had dogs all my life - growing up with the abused and unwanted mutts from the anti cruelty assoc in Chicago - my mom would go on the days the dogs that were not wanted would be euthanized, and she would bring them home - we always had 3 mutts in the household that no one else wanted and they were the most wonderful family dogs --
Even tho I grew up with all kinds of dogs, I have never ever had a dog like my Boxer ---- he is the most wonderful, kind, loving, and loyal dog ever.... what joy and love he brings to me.

I am glad I was able to help. Raw is much easier when traveling. Beef is
beef, no matter where you purchase it. that makes it a lot easier when you
are moving from place to place.

Have a great trip!

Hi Karon -- I was so concerned about having Gunnar on a raw diet while I
travel (I live in a motorhome), and now I realize it will be easier to feed
him on this diet than anything else - he is flourishing on the raw diet.....
He is building muscle - several people have commented on how wonderful he
looks......

Well, dogs aren't people and they don't really need people food. Though they
will usually eat it when it is offered. There is little they won't eat<G>

But, all they really need is meat, animal protein and bone and organ meat.
That is a complete diet for them. the occasional bite of veggie is tasty and
sweet to them but not required. Grains are not great for them. they are
simply filler foods that make the dog think he is eating more than he is.
But they are not well digested, at all and simply create more poop.

Since my pups have been eating raw, I have had MUCH less to clean in the
back yard and that means a nicer lawn and fewer places I need to watch my
step. It's great!

No, you don't need to feed them vitamin supplements unless there is a
problem with the dog. Just keep them on a balanced meat, bone and organ diet
and they will be fine!

Don't you have to have special vitamins and a variety of vegetables, and
other nutrients? I tried to feed my boston cooked meat and not have the
kibble. I would make a mutt loaf with vegetables, hamburger, rice etc. It
didn't work. I bought pork neck bones, he ate them but made a greasy mess on
the carpet. I didn't cook them.
Satch seems to be content. I use Diamond kibble and some of our dinner mixed
in. When I cook, it's for 4. My husband, Daughter, Satch and me. He even ate
sauerkraut, loved it. I don't feed him great quantities of people food, just
enough to
let him feel he's part of the family.
Please don't think I'm a crackpot. I am 70 years old, my baby making days
are over. I need to love and nurture someone that needs me. He makes me
happy.

I always tell people to start with chicken. It is a mild meat and an easy
place to start. It is also pretty easy to find on a regular basis. Pretty
much all grocery stores carry it.

Don't think about doing the gradual changeover. There is no reason for that.
the best way to change to raw feeding is to just stop feeding kibble and go
ahead and feed meat. Just toss the kibble and start feeding the meat. It is
the easiest and best way to change over. There is very little trouble
changing from kibble to meat.

Going the other way, you have a lot of trouble. Once a dog is used to the
correct diet of meat and bones, putting grains into the diet causes some
serious trouble. When you do that, you will have some serious digestive
issues including diarrhea and gas issues if you put the grains back in the
diet.

But, start with chicken and just toss the kibble. You'll see your dogs feel
better and look better very quickly.
