One thing you really have to watch is backing down when she growls. This just emphasizes to her SHE is more "powerful" than you. Not A Good Thing!
If you think you might have trouble, try not to be alone with her. You shouldn't have a second person helping you, rather there in case you need help. This is more a "worst case scenario" but remember: bad stuff can happen.
Put a collar on her so you have something to grab in case she does get pushy. You can use this to remind her who is in control. Do a little "mother shake" (dams will actually give a little shake to pups who don't obey). Or actually raise her up off her front legs is she gets badly aggressive. That position gives her less "purchase" to do you damage ... as well as reminding her Who's the Boss.
You need to be very careful now because you have already given way to a growl. You're going to have to assert yourself more to regain the Alpha spot.

Yvonne,
I appreciate your suggestions! I have heard about hand feeding but had not tried it. After reading your post, I feel so hopeful that this can be resolved. I will take a more supportive, reassuring and calming approach and be patient.
Thank you for your response.
