This is a boy that is now in GO Boxer Rescue, and his foster home has written the below. His Thyroid was in mid normal range, not in the lower range of any aspects of the panel. We're looking for any suggestions. The vet is baffled too and wants to run a bunch of other tests, which of course adds to his vet care expenses of course. We'd really like some suggestions on possible issues, before testing blindly. Thanks in advance! There are pictures if anyone wants to see those let me know.
Here are the symptoms of the hair loss.
1) Loss of hair primarily on the sides and back. No prickly, bumpy or scaliness. The skin is very smooth like a babies butt. He does not bite or scratch like it's itchy or irritated.
2) Although he does not eat more than a cup of food a day, he weighs 83 pounds. He does not have much of an appetite. I have to hold the bowl and coax him to take bites. He does not seem to like treats. Previous owner said he drank water until he puked but I have not had that problem. However, I only fill a water bowl 1/2 full at a time.
3) Previous owner her ex originally had this poor boy outside year round and fed mainly table scraps. She moved here about 7 months ago and the hair loss started shortly afterward.
4) He was on a Purina Chicken formula dry dog food which caused him to have bloody diarrhea. He has been on Purina Lamb & Rice for a few weeks and no longer has the diarrhea or any blood in his stool.
5) Northgate A.H. gave him an injection for allergies on 6/9/2018. There was not blood or skin tests done at this time. I do not know if the injection helped at all.
6) On Monday he was given a wellness check at Moore Vet Clinic. They drew blood and sent off for thyroid analysis. Tests came back within normal ranges but a low dose of meds might still be in order.
7) He is the best dog ever. Show no signs of any sort of anxiety or aggression. He plays very good with my 7 month old puppy and gets along great with all of the dogs at the dog park. He loves people and always has a wonderful smile on his face. He's just fat and bald.
