Re: [boxer lovers] Head Shakes

My boxer does this too.  We give him something to focus on like small pieces of cheese or hot dog.  He stops shaking long enough to smell what he's getting.  I make them small enough by the time he's finished with them his shakes are gone.  Plus he gets a nice treat and lots of love ;)

Thank you LisaW
I can remember several member mentioning that problem with their Boxer.  I hope they see this.

Our beloved little list is nearly comatose but I wanted to share...

Sometime ago someone posted about head shakes. There was little to no information about head shakes in dogs on the 'Net. But when it happens to YOUR baby, it becomes Very Important. You can't miss it. Your dog's head is shaking back and forth, and the look of "Make it stop?" on your dog is heartbreaking.

Not going to guarantee this will work every time, but if your dog starts doing that head shake, first try doing a deep massage on the neck right above where the neck meets the shoulders. DEEP. You're not aiming to dig and hurt, you're not poking, but a deep finger/hand massage. Meg's head shaking started for no reason that I can find. She's gotten up from a sound sleep and started, she's had a meal, come back to say with me and started. It isn't constant. Isn't all the frequent, but when it happens, if I DON'T do a massage it lasts and gets stronger. With the massage, it goes away in a few minutes, as I'm massaging. ‎And, with no scientific basis, it seems to me that since I've started using massage as a treatment, the bouts of shake have gotten further and further apart. That may just be happenstance but she had more frequent Shakes before I stumbled across this.

If this doesn't help, do consult your vet, but if ‎this can help another of our babies, I'm glad.
