They will eat potatoes & carrots if they happen to run across them. but don't expect them to dig them up. The only reason they like them is that they are sweet. But, by virtue of being root vegetables, they definitely do not count as natural dog food in the wild.

I don't agree with you Jeanne. Where do you get this info from? When dogs or wolves make their kill and I am sure you are there watching , they don't eat the stomach contents first . They do rip it open and eat liver and organs . Wolves only eat berries if starving and there is no food . Don't see any wolves eating potatoes or carrots and they don't eat wheat or corn in the fields either .So yes meat is basically all they eat . or fish in certain areas. Mine have ate only meat (raw) for over 8 years and are in perfect health. No pesticides like flea stuff or vaccines and vet said they are great and have the best teeth . Any way just my thought . No cancer or thyroid problems . My one just turned 12 and she is great. No health issues at all and the best coat of hair to boot.
