Which is why you allow them to eat the skin, the bones, the fur, the feathers. Dogs don’t do well with just about any grain. The reason it doesn’t bother them when they eat the entrails of prey is because the prey provides the gut juices for digestion and the contents are, all but the most recent meal, already down the pie, so to speak.

Feed what you like but every dog I have fed raw for 20 years has been in the pink of health. I have seen raw diets greatly, visibly improve hip dysplasia, I know people who have turned around serious gastric illnesses with raw.

I am a label reader. My dog food says “whole turkey, beef, chicken, fish.”

Generally in the wild when a "dog" (read as 'dog' - - such as wolf) brings down a kill - a deer for example, the very first thing they will eat are the stomach contents = grains and grasses. Although our dogs do not revert to the wild, they still do require certain carbs from grains in their diet to aid digestion. Yes, too much and of the wrong kind are just pooped out - and also an abrupt change of diet will cause your dog to poop a lot of the new food out until their system adjusts. otherwise, yes, the over abundance of grains in pet food are simply fillers.

So while certain grains in limited amounts are important, too much would be harmful.

Remember too, that dogs should not have a 100% MEAT diet; they are domesticated animals and have been for thousands of years. They require a well blended diet,the same as we do. Be aware that TOO HIGH of a Protein diet is harmful– not beneficial. A proper protein blend, derived mainly from fresh chicken should be between 21 and 25%. High activity dogs require the higher protein but puppies do not require super high . . become a label reader."
