just 'mis-information' - and regardless, we all have to be kept aware of what happens to us and our pets, with food products that are allowed to be imported.

Much of our 'chicken" for humans - comes from China and other Asian countries. BAD STUFF!

However - back to our Pet Food - - BONE meal and MEAT MEAL are NOT bad; it can be the 'meat by products" that are bad - but in some case NOT. For example, meat /animal/ by products can be as good as heart, kidney and /or liver. (we do NOT want "brain" though)

"meal" made from meat or chicken is actually better for our pets, than plain 'meat' or chicken meat.

Turning pure meat/chicken into meal is basically a process of rendering the meat, which also extracts most of the water. therefore, you are paying less for 'water' content, and more for 'meat' content through this process. Some 'meat meal' is actually human grade - but not all, of course, as the process is more for the pet food industry than for human food consumption.

So, generally, I do prefer my cat and dog food to be 'meat meal' or chicken meal - but it is still important to read all of the contents.

Simply put, in layman's language, it is better to have meat meal. Less water and much much higher protein content - see below.

"100 lbs of chicken meal provides 65 lbs of protein while 100 lbs of chicken provides only 18 lbs of protein."

There is lots of good information on the facts and fables behind pet food - but still - there was a time not too long ago when our diseased and dead animals, including dogs and cats, were scrapped up and thrown pell mell into the process and THAT is what is meant by the "major concerns."

In Canada, and I would think the USA as well, this problem was addressed several years ago, and the pet food industry has had to make major changes in what they are allowed to consider for processing.
