But, don’t get a crate that is too big. A dog can be injured in a crate that is too large. I have found that a good crate toy is excellent if you are going to be gone for several hours. I like Kongs and the new Kong Genius toys are excellent as crate toys.

While you're gone your dog usually will sleep. The size cage he needs is what he will be comfortable in when sleeping. Most boxers sleep all curled up in a ball, but some sleep sprawled out on their sides. You need to take that into consideration when getting the right size cage. I don't keep my cages up all the time. I have cages that fold-down and look like a suitcase. Their metal cages. That way they don't take up room when they're not in use you can just fold them up and put them away.
