Re: [boxer lovers] New to the group

Hi and welcome, Becca.

Echo is a Seal Brindle or Reverse Brindle. This is how a Brindle coat with so much brindling yo‎u can hardly if at all see the fawn under color is noted. For registration or just general info she's just Brindle.

First off we are NOT veterinarians on this list. We are boxer owners and lovers. If Echo was mine ‎I'd get an appointment with another vet, hopefully one who is familiar with boxers physiology or at least willing to research. Boxers are not complete weirdos but they are different than most other breeds. Your vet may be good, just not boxer savvy.

Unless you're feeding heavily fatty meals Echo should NOT have diarrhea or other digestive upset because you've given her extra food. I'd want to check for food allergies or sensitivities. It's possible she has some chronic gastrointestinal problems like colitis , IBD etc. My Meg is fed a mostly beef raw diet. She's been tested and VERY Allergic to chicken, turkey and eggs. She has more allergies to other foods (green peas, brewers yeast, wheat, sweet potatoes - in fact look at the ingredients list of a premium commercial dog food and this her Allergies list). She itches and breaks out in hives. I had a dog with severe colitis and diarrhea was always a problem but his frequently had blood in his stool. To know what Echo's problem is requires the aid of a good vet.‎ For example although the testing said Meg could have Duck and pumpkin, both cause her to vomit, almost as soon as she eats them.

That said canned pumpkin (pureed NOT pumpkin pie filling) is usually good for providing dogs with nutrients that help digestion. Meggie can't have it but when I have fed it, I've given a heaping serving spoon amount as part of the meal. And if Echo has problems with being fed one or two large meals, give her 3 or 4 smaller meals.

Good luck with your girl and let us know how she is.

Subject: [boxer lovers] New to the group

Hello,

My name is Becca and in February we got our second boxer. We lost our first boxer about 4 years ago and it took me a while to feel ready for another one. Our newest Boxer, Echo, is a sealed brindle. At least that is what we were told. Shes black with white toes and white on her chest and nose. Anyway, in July she got really sick and developed diarrhea and vomiting. The doctors did all the tests and could not find a reason. After several days of sub-q fluids and antibiotics, more de-wormer, and special food, she finally had normal stools again. But ever since then, if I feed her too much at one time she developes the diarrhea again. She has been on a grain free dry dog food since we got her. I feed all my dogs Earthborn Holistic. The other concern I have is that she only weighs a little over 30 pounds. I can't seem to get her to gain any weight. Her spine and hip bones stick out and I feed her three cups a day unless shes having diarrhea. I'm starting to add cooked rice to her food. I am hoping this will help with the diarrhea. The vet doesn't seem to concerned as her bloodwork is all good and her behavior and temperment are fine. Other than her small size and her digestive pyrotechnics, she is normal in every way. She plays, she runs, she gets into things. She's wonderful. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Or is this something that boxers do sometimes?
