Yes, my family has had man 'inherited' pets. I grew up with "Pookie" because, two weeks before she died, my grandmother agreed to keep him if my cousin named him "Pookie" Why the cousin didn't raise him (Pookie was a puppy, then) is my good luck. He was a wonderful dog and always reminded me of my grandmother, even though she only saw him once. But it was an important visit (last time I saw her, too). I put our dear Pookie down when he was 16 and I was 30 (because my mother could not face doing it)
He was a mutt and chewed on the same nasty old garage sale wig for most of his life. If you SAID the word 'wig' when he could still hear, he'd destroy SOMETHING! But he was a great dog.

I don't understand families. They say how much they love someone and will miss them but do not take care of their animals when they pass? I see all the time people having to get rid of a dog or cat that belonged to a parent just passed away. Don't you owe anything to your parents? Last year I took 2 of my mom's Boxers when she passed. So now I have 3 Boxers and a Standard Poodle in a small house. It is trouble but it is doable as I owe it to her to be sure her little "family" is taken care of. I get so disgusted with people...
