5 Ways to Celebrate World Oceans Day
Everything you do is possible because of water—beyond drinking it, you also eat food that thrived on it and enjoy products that were shipped over it. Even breathing depends on it. With everything it has given us, our ocean deserves a little recognition. Spend World Oceans Day (June 8) honoring our blue planet with these tips.
1. Come to the Aquarium for a weekend-long festival! Join us on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 for our World Oceans Day Celebration, where we'll be toasting our oceans harbor-side with sustainable food, drinks, free activities and live music.
2. Pledge to protect our planet. Each person has the power to impact the future of our blue planet. Visit 48DaysofBlue.com today to pledge your commitment to ocean conservation.
3. Explore the deep seas—from your computer. On June 1, Fabien Cousteau embarked on an ambitious undertaking: living and working underwater for a full month. Join him and his team 63 feet under the sea by watching the live stream online.
4. Make art out of upcycled materials. Help us build a 15-foot sculpture of Calypso—the Aquarium's beloved green sea turtle—with upcycled items.
5. Support marine animal rescue. Charlie, Maverick and Tombstone—three of the remaining six sea turtle patients at our Animal Rescue Center—are ready for release, thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers. Learn more about them online, and chat with our Animal Rescue team this weekend.
