Just wanted to drop a note to everyone that we have a new arrival to the Carpenter clan! Her name is Pearl and she is a white Boxer girl, approx. 5-6 yrs. old. She was left at the Wood County Humane Society in Bowling Green, Ohio when her previous owner found out that she had mammary gland cancer. This was in January of this year. She had several of the glands removed and had good margins. We went to see her the first week of March and fell in love. So small, about half the size of our bruiser Emmett. She weighs 43 lbs. and Emmett weighs in at a hefty 80 lbs. She was abused and bred, when her usefulness was over and she got sick they left her. She has been stressed by being at the humane society and having multiple surgeries. On top of her cancer surgery, she was spayed and the skin was tightening up from the original surgery and causing her to limp some. They made 2 incisions to loosen the skin up some, but if it gets any worse she may have to have skin grafts. She has had some itching issues which could be diet, which she has been switched to all natural food. Natures Balance chicken and brown rice. Vet thinks and so does staff, itching issues could be stress. Just have to watch. She needs groceries. You can see every rib and her backbone. So far she has a very good appetite and cleans her bowl up. They told us to feed her 3 times a day until she gets used to her new home and gets weight on. Emmett is very nosy of her and hasn't quite figured her out yet. She has growled at him twice today and I have laid down the ground rules with her. Will have to watch closely, could be because of new home and getting use to. Mom and Dad are the head dogs here. Emmett knows that, she will also. We will post pictures when I can figure how to download from the card to the new computer I got. They will be under Emmett, Levi, and Pearl folders. We were going to get a pup, but, I got to thinking about it, there are so many boxers out there that need help. We saw her on line and she stole our hearts. What ever time she may have, she will be loved and cherished, fed well, and taken care of. Pearl's old life is behind her. We went ahead to foster to adopt because if she does get a bad limp from the skin tightening back up, the Humane Society would help us with the surgery for the skin grafts, if needed. She is here to stay! Curt and Karen Carpenter Emmett, sealed coat boxer 5yrs. Pearl, white boxer 5-6 yrs. Levi, white boxer 9yrs. at the bridge, always and forever.
