Re: [boxer lovers] rabies

Hi Kathi,
It is so easy, especially in a Boxer group to latch onto blaming anything for cancer. The truth is the breed is pron to cancer, always has been. Boxers have been dying of cancer for longer then vaccines have been around. The more we learn the worse it seems, but the truth is cancer is and always has been a huge problem for Boxers.

As for rabies, we do vaccinate our livestock also. As I've said before, better safe then sorry. And as far as the rest of our vaccines go, I am sure that just like us, you have found what works for you and look very carefully at the new ideas and claims that come along and weight them very carefully against the facts that we do have. Since we are in a very remote area, rabies is a huge concern. And as you know, putting out bait in rural areas, for the wildlife is nothing more then a pipe dream.

I do wish you all the luck in the world with those black and white putty cats. We are lucky on that front, not many of them come around here. We have more trouble with Coyotes. And our Llamas have had a few run ins with them.

I know they are not required every year.some of the cities here do require that they get them every year. I just do not want to take any chances. and any mammal can get rabies even livestock.people just don't hear about it as often as they do other animals.there are downfalls to everything and I prefer to get the shots, none of my animals have ever had cancer or gotten sick from getting the shots. my boxer had cancer before I got him and it was on his leg not where he got his shots.i had it removed and it never came back.kathi
