I can only share my experience with two pups, bought when they were 4 months old .
At around a year, the male, who is not neutered, started noticing the female who was neutered. He only tried a few times to breed, she ran him off of course. He continued to sniff her often to see if she was in heat.
After a few months that changed to infrequently.
At three now, he gets excited when females in the are in heat but he understands his 'roommate' isnt going to breed w him.
Not one of the three males I've owned have ever humped people, and only humped each other when they were younger. They seem very wise in the matter compared to other dogs I have been around.
I don't normally say anything and "lurk" in the back round enjoying the
conversations and the information that is shared about our boxers. I
have a question about bringing in a female pup into a male dog
household. Last June, we lost our beloved white boxer Levi to cancer at
the age of 9. It was one of the most upsetting times for both my wife
and myself. We are finally to the point where we are considering
looking for a new family member to join Emmett, our going to be 5 year
old boxer. I have been nosing around and looking and came across a
breeder out of Columbus Ohio that has a 4 month old white female pup
that was never sold from their last litter. From what they show online
on their website she comes from a line of champions that are currently
being shown in the state. They are members of the CKC and Ohio Boxer
Club This pup is absolutely beautiful and has melted my heart. I don't
and do not intend to breed her and would get her spayed very quickly.
Where the issue comes into play is Emmett is an intact male and if we
get the pup spayed, would he try to hump her continually? Hate to sound
stupid, but that is the question. My wife feels he might. He is very
submissive, but he seems to have come into his own since Levi left us.
Levi was a very dominate dog and somewhat protective of my wife. He was
her dog for sure! Just need some thoughts here. Should we go for another
male or what would be the best way. I know we probably should have had
both the boys neutered but we didn't. Levi was and Emmett is and will be
always a house dog. So will be the next one. Looking forward to the
help. I will send breeders name off line if requested. We were going to
see the pup this past Sunday, but, a family issue came up and would like
to see her in the next week or so.
