Re: [boxer lovers] Advice for hip dysplasia

Wow - thank you!!  Will see what I can find!  Anything that can be done holistically is the way I want to go!

Thank you again!

There was an old time boxer breeder from Cincinnati, Joe Heine  who had worked on nutrition and other "natural when they can be" treatments for dogs. Joe was a mortician by trade and had background in chemistry and the natural sciences. He was one of the first in animal husbandry to publicize the problems with the high tension power lines and reproduction. He also used diet and nutrition to treat hip dysplasia. IIRC, Joe also was one of the first "modern day" (ok the 60s and 70s!) to push the use of  ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) in nutrition

Joe is gone but I KNOW he published his findings in both scientific journals as well as dog magazines. It might take some digging or someone in the Cincinnati Boxer club might either have access to or know where to find his ‎publications.

My beautiful 3 year old boxer Heidi was just diagnosed with hip dysplasia.  I was stunned to learn she also has arthritis in her spine, too.  She has earned her CGC and TDI certifications and will now retire her from therapy to protect her as we worked with special needs' kids - known to be rough and have uncontrollable outbursts, for her safety and comfort.

Would love some input on treatment plans you have used that worked.  She is on Rimadyl and I started her on a glucosamin, chondroiton and MSM supplement.  Just diagnosed on Tuesday.  She is definitely more comfortable - but I would like to learn about long term effects of these meds/supplements, and alternatives, etc.

Thank you!
