There was an old time boxer breeder from Cincinnati, Joe Heine who had worked on nutrition and other "natural when they can be" treatments for dogs. Joe was a mortician by trade and had background in chemistry and the natural sciences. He was one of the first in animal husbandry to publicize the problems with the high tension power lines and reproduction. He also used diet and nutrition to treat hip dysplasia. IIRC, Joe also was one of the first "modern day" (ok the 60s and 70s!) to push the use of ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) in nutrition.
Joe is gone but I KNOW he published his findings in both scientific journals as well as dog magazines. It might take some digging or someone in the Cincinnati Boxer club might either have access to or know where to find his publications.
