Re: [boxer lovers] wanting a puppy

I'm glad you found a boxer. I hope it turns out well for you.

However ... someone who "breeds because he loves boxers" is NOT
necessarily a "reputable breeder." Sure, anyone who "breeds his female
dog to a male dog" might be considered "a breeder," in actuality, they
really aren't. They usually do it for the money. The breeder I gave you,
the 2 on the list who responded, are all "show" breeders -- they have
limited litters. They have carefully researched the bloodlines of who is
bred to whom. In pretty much any "Show" litter, there are "pet quality."
Sometimes because they are white. Sometimes because they are plain
(plain can show and do win -- but they have to be very, very good
confirmation-wise and an excellent judge). Sometimes they just don't
have the "show" attitude (my Cooper was Show Quality from a show litter,
but he was so laid back, there wasn't much thought he'd make it in the
show world -- it wasn't until he was older his Chronic Colitis reared
its deadly head).

Reputable breeders have run medical tests on the proposed parents, like
Holter heart testing, etc. Did the breeder you bought from have both the
sire and dam in house? Doesn't mean owning both makes you a "backyard
breeder" (in the negative sense). Were either parent Show ring tested
for confirmation or obedience ring tested for brains? These are the
things a truly "reputable breeder" brings to your animal.
