Rachel: It is called an "easy walk". It works great! Heidi has not ever been able to crate. She has panic attacks so I had to find other things to entertain her while we were gone and I started out with short jaunts and over time, I can now leave her for several hours with no problems. I leave her stuffed, frozen kongs, frozen beef soup bones, and put up anything shouldn't get into and since then, she is fine.
I hope this has been helpful, somehow.

Totally agree with everything Val has told you,
but would also like to add in CRATE TRAIN. He
won't be able to get into things when you are
gone, or asleep, unless you close your bedroom
door to restrict his movement, and have your
bedroom puppy proofed - yes, just like toddler
proofed. A crate is not mean, they learn to
consider it their space, just like human kids
like their own bedroom. There's lots of articles
on how to crate train on the web. I have a
feeling if you'd been crating since the time you
got him the house training issue would have been resolved by now.
Val, would be interested in name of the harness
you use. I love the Sporn No-Pull harness,
available on the web from lots of places, and at
a number of pet stores as well. If a dog tries
to pull it lifts their legs off the ground. Just
make sure you use the sherpa sleeves over the
lines that come with it so it doesn't rub a Boxer's underarms raw.
Also check out an article on the web called
"Nothing in Life is Free" which is a very good
article on helping to teach you to be a good pack leader.
