One of the best things you could do is actually
go to an obedience class with a good training
club in your area, not the pet store types. Not
sure where you live so can't begin to try to find
one for you in your area. This would help give
you more of a handle on ways to work with
him. Boxers are a "working" breed, and thus are
"thinkers" and they will figure things out that
amaze people at times for sure.
And yes, they can learn to sit and behave. I
don't know if you've ever checked out my
signature block, but I actually use a Boxer for
my Guide Dog for the Blind and Visually
Impaired. And yes, people are amazed when they
see him just laying on the floor beside my chair
in a restaurant rather than jumping up and trying
to beg from the table and so on. It's training
and honestly no, it doesn't take that long to
train them, but you have to be consistent and get
them to "want" to do the things you ask of them.
