RE: [boxer lovers] IBD

Kangaroo is definitely a novel protein and is low fat, extremely low fat.
However, it is not inexpensive here in the States. Rayne has a kangaroo diet

I normally feed my girl a 99% lean buffalo that I order from Wild Idea, but
a storm postponed my most recent shipment by a week so I was going to
substitute antelope meat temporarily that I had seen in Sprouts Market. They
didn't have the antelope, but surprisingly, they had ground kangaroo for
$7.99 /lb. If you live in the West with a Sprouts Market, this is an
unbelievable price for kangaroo. Her Christmas present was a bit of kangaroo
and that was $28/lb.

I'm just wondering if you had a firm diagnosis of IBD? Did you do an endo?
My girl has kidney disease so anesthesia is not an easy question, but I had
finally resigned myself to having it done to determine for sure if she did
have IBD and then be able to decide if we would use a steroid to help with
the inflammation. The week I made up my mind, her heart started failing, so
the endo was off the table. My IMS said that diet alone often is not enough
to address it so we were going to consider budesopine as this steroid tends
to stay in the gut. I decided to try yucca intensive first to see if that
might be enough to address the inflammation. The diet change to 99% lean
buffalo and the yucca seemed to really make the difference for my girl. Her
u/s' since then have shown no inflammation in her intestines and her lipase
is actually WNL. That being said, I really would have preferred to have had
a definitive diagnosis.

Also, I would suggest discussing carafate with your vet. Anytime there is a
GI problem the mucosa in the intestines can become damaged. The
carafate/sulcrafate helps protect the mucosa. I've had Maggie on it since
Aug. Initially we had some constipation, but that subsided after about a
week. Slippery Elm Bark is also another amazing thing for coating/protecting
the GI tract. Lastly, L-glutamine helps to repair the intestines.

I had a boxer with all kinds of issues - more than I could explain.
However, he decided to "experiment" with a newer food from Iams - it is
called KO. The meat base is kangaroo...of all things. Let me tell you, it
was a miracle!! My beagle no longer suffers from tummy issues, allergies,
bloated tummy, and more. He is like a 6 year old puppy - looks and feels
wonderful and is playing again. Just a thought to consider, if your vet has
available. It is a prescription food so kinda pricey but worth every penny
for how much better he now feels.
