Hiya, i live in England. U.K,i have a 3 year old boxer who has severe hip dysplaxia in both back hips, this is probably due to him having swimmers puppy syndrome at birth, and multiple problems in the early months of his life. We have so far not had any surgery as we have from the begining been having hydrotherapy weekly to start with which is now on a fortnightly basis. we have tried to lessen this but he get very stiff if its not kept to fortnightly, and also with conjunction with the hydro he has physiotherapy every 6 weeks. He also has a catraphen injection every 3 months and only has his a medication that helps him probably in the last 2 weeks before his injection is due, as he will become stiff.
so far with all these therapies these are helping my boy without any surgery involved, and he is a happy go lucky chap that does exactly as the other dogs that do with the walking, etc, even though he is monitored and sometimes restricted to how much running about he does. However he sumhow will know when hes doing too much and will pace himself.
Hope this gives you hope in the quest to sort your boy, without the surgery route

Does anyone know a good orthopedic specialist I can take her to for an evaluation. The vet thinks she will need a total hip replacement and although I know this is out of my budget, I would like a 2nd opinion and some suggestions on how to care for her moving forward.
