My Boxer, a rescue I have had for a year now, was to go in for vaccines in September….the "white" part of one eye had (over a period of several days) turned blood red. When my vet saw this, he immediately did some blood tests and determined that she has Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia…..her platelet count was 27,000, and normal is 175,000 to 500,000…..so she was in big trouble. She also had tiny little red "blood spots" on the inside of her ears and on her tummy….they were so tiny that I had not noticed them. She started taking Prednisone and an antibiotic, and she is doing much better now….the eye was a big indication of this problem….the vet said her platelet count was so low that she could bleed out, so had to be very careful of everything she did…she stayed in the hospital for a few days until her blood count showed a little improvement, then she came home and I had to watch her to keep her quiet and be sure she
did not have any kind of scratch or cut or anything that would start bleeding. She is doing better now and platelet count is up to 179,000, so we are making progress.
If you dog is having "blood" or red spots in her eyes, she needs to be checked immediately.

The cornea is the clear part we don't see covering the cloured part (iris)and pupil. I have no clue why it is cloudy , mine wasn't. Also no clue about the bleeding part . Just keep him quite and use the medicine and pray about it .My pup hurt his leg and I wasn't even home so who knows what happens sometimes Blessings

The cornea and the edge of the pupil look cloudy around the scratch... I forgot to ask if that will go away... it gave me the same feeling as when you see a dog that is blind.. except it is reddish brown instead of blue... The doc said it looks like he got it scratched but if it did not heal in about a week and a half to bring him back...it could be something called Pannus...but I told him it came on over night...since my dogs are in the house I would notice if it had been coming on for a period of time...plus you can see the scratch too...so he said it is most likely a scratch... I also had wondered why the brown part of his and Boo's eyes look like they are bleeding color into the white of their eyes...is that normal and what causes it.. I forgot to ask about that too... I was worried how he would react to people and their pets since he has be acting scared when someone comes to our house...

I am glad you went to the vet . Good to know you got some meds . The meds they give you that are prescription usually have a hydro/cortisone in them which helps heal better and faster. Thanks for letting me know,
Hope his eye heals up quickly. Just watch down the road because scratches can cause an ulcerative cornea. Mine started up about 3 times since clearing up but I don't use contacts any more and I use tears natural for dry eys and I haven't had a problem in over 8 years.Funny I got mine when my contact blew out of my eye (GAS PERMIABLE LONG TiME AGO) Glad you got him checked . You will know by his eyes when it is healed.

Hi, We just got back from the Vet and , as I surmised, Marcus has had his eye scratched.. I asked about the triple Antibiotic ointment I had used with the eyewash and he said he is not see any reason not to use it because it is the same meds they use....except that it may not be sterile. He did say that he could not see any harm using it at least temporally. He gave me some drops to put in his eyes that are sterile since it will probably take aobut a week for it to heal completely and I need to use them for that amount of time...

The line in the eye sounds like maybe a scratched cornea.I wouldn't take any chances since I have had one and took a year for the doctor to check me properly . It is quite painful and the eye gets itchy and tears. Also takes some time to heal with proper meds. It also could reacur down the line.I do use over the counter eye ointment for the start of eye infections for my cockers but sometimes I have to get a prescription . Just call the vet and ask what you could use over the counter.
