Just be careful and let her rest as much as possible. Tendon tears do take a
while to heal in people or animals. Just let the dog determine the pace of
healing. She'll start moving as soon as she is feeling well enough. At her
age, she won't be able to sit still if she is well. so, just let her rest
all she can. you might ask the vet for some Rimadyl, which is the doggie
equivalent of Aleve. It is an Anti-inflammatory so, it will help the muscles
relax and heal and decrease pain. The only real steps I would recommend
would be to maybe cut back her calorie intake a little. Since she won't be
exercising as much, she may not need as many calories. At the same time, it
may require a few more calories for the purpose of healing. So, I would
watch her weight as she recovers. If she looks like she is putting on a
little, just replace some of her regular food with a few green beans.
I hope she feels better!

Subject: [boxer lovers] Boxer with hind leg/hip problems :(
Hi everyone. I joined this group 3 yrs ago when we got our cute little boxer
puppy, Taylor. She is such a good girl. So sweet, loving, playful and very
much loved. She's always been very active, we take her in long walks and she
runs 4 miles per day with my husband. But these past couple of months she's
been having problems with her legs or hips...I can't tell exactly where her
pain is. She's very slow at getting up after laying and she sits on one
side. We have had her to the vet. After the first visit he said she did not
have displaysia and he checked her for lymes disease, which was negative. He
told us to give it a couple of wks and bring her back if it worsened. We
limited her activity. Later that week she fell coming up the stairs and we
had to carry her to the top. We took her back to the vet and asked for
X-rays. Upon looking at them he said she may have a slight tear in one of
her tendons and it could be 6 months before she heals but will get better.
It's been 2 months and we haven't seen any improvement. I think the vet
thinks we are over reacting but it is so horrible watching her go through
this and wondering if it could be something more serious. I was just
wondering if anyone else's boxer has had these these problems and maybe a
little advice as to what I should do now? We've been giving her
cosequin...but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. Thank you in
advance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
