Yeah, those are better than Ol'Roy but still not so great. When you switch,
Mary gave you a quick overview of how to do it. put down a bowl of what the
pup has been eating and replace a small amount of it with the new food to
which you are changing them. every couple of days you decrease the amount of
old food and increase the amount of new. The pup usually won't notice the
changeover.
Now, as for satisfaction. Yes, most likely. I have 60 pound boxers and they
eat two cups of Bil Jac per day. Or, if regular meat, they eat about a pound
per day (they spend most of their day asleep<G> and are a bit older<G>)
everything is based on weight and how well they are maintaining. It is more
expensive but Publix LOVES us<G> and so do the mutts<G>
But, they do very well and are very happy. And we do not have massive piles
of poop. And, because those piles don't include grains, I can rarely find
them (I quit looking) because after a few days, they either are completely
dry and crumbly and gone, or it rains and they completely wash away.
Seriously, these dogs don't poop much!
Any grain is going to give you more poop. The less grain you have in the
diet, the better.
The thing that is FAR more important than brand names is protein content and
grain content. Look at the nutrition info. Find the highest protein you can
find and the lowest grain content that you can afford. That is the best
idea.
Having said that, if you are willing to go raw and willing to go into it,
that is a WHOLE other story and is wonderful for your dog. My dogs are
thriving on it. they do SO well! and, you don't have to buy them Filet
Mignon. You can buy the inexpensive stuff, many of the meats that a local
store is having to remove for dates and things like that. You can actually,
if you shop smart, spend less on raw than you do on dry food in many cases.
It does take a little effort and, sometimes, getting to know your butcher.
But, you REALLY want to do that for yourself, anyway<G>

She is feeding Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Puppy Large Breed, which
is very expensive. I like the lamb, our Bishon really likes the lamb in
Purina One Lamb and Rice formula. This is going to sound like a silly
question, but I don't do a lot of switching with dog food, and haven't fed
the very expensvie food to my dogs. Does higher quaility food mean they are
more easily satisfied and eat less? I don't feed dog chow, ol'roy or store
brands, but use Purina One, and Purina Pedigree.

your recommendations for food? I would prefer something that I can purchase
at Walmart or Target, maybe Petsmart.
