Thank you Jeanne. People who don't see their dogs as we do just don't
understand and they don't get it when I go strolling down the street every
time I see a tree truck and give them a lecture and question where they'll
be. The neighbors think I'm nuts (I am but that's another story, entirely)
my babies are part of my life. My parents didn't think of dogs as I do and I
didn't learn to until I was on my own, living alone and Rowdy was my only
Roommate. He took me through a divorce, new marriage and helped me raise my
kidlets. He was a terrific dog. I still miss him. This story of Parvo
brought all this back. Telling this story made it real again and reminded me
how much I miss Bo (the one who could open gates, had severe hip dysplasia,
is one of the reasons I am rabid <;SNARK><~~~ about intelligent breeding and
one night left her mark on my youngest daughter by splitting her lip which
required 9 stitches, at 4am the day after Christmas when her hips were hit
by two wrestling children) and Rowdy, how I will miss Mayhem and Tovi when
they leave me and made me want, desperately, to remind you all how much our
babies depend on us for their care. How much they need us and how much we
love them.
Sorry for the run ons but, we all need to pause, on this of all days, and
remember that, among the things for which to be grateful, our four legged
friends should always be included. And loving something means being
responsible for them and caring for them.
Have a wonderful weekend and if you plan to be in the madness this weekend,
be careful.

The post by Karon Adams was very well spoken and a good reminder of the
scary things that can happen to our beloved 4 legged family., Just another
horrific story - and I was greatly saddened at reading what her and her
family - 2 legged and 4 legged were put through so needlessly. I know and
agree that Ditz was taken in and lived a fine life; and I know how
sensitive Springers are and agree that the shock of being taken from his
home and impounded was very hard on Rowdy's system. However, knowing the
unbelievable strength of our loyal companions, think that once he was safe
in his familys 'arms', he knew it was ok to 'let go' and felt safe enough
to do so. I don't think he 'just gave up" - I believe he knew it was his
time and he *would not* give up until he was safe once more. thankfully,
he was found but didn't have the physical ability to fight anymore - likely
due to his age.
I too have had a terrible happening due to the fault of the power company
who entered our acreage without any warning. I don't want to go into the
details - suffice to say, one of our Boxers died and 2 were injured because
of the Power company employee.
So be aware - do not allow anyone to enter your yard, for any purpose,
unless given prior permission to do so.
