Re: Food for Doxies

Hello all, one of my dachsies needed to loose 1.5 pounds (she is 9y old) to bring her down to 12lbs. I always measure out their food, feed twice a day and they get two walks on a good day.We feed eukenuba for dachsies each dog gets2x 1/8 of a cup dry,a teaspoon wet food and some dentaltreat dusted over it and in the evening I squirt some fish oil over the food also. They lost each 2 lbs in 6 months,so we are below our goal weight and I increased their dry food by a little more . They also get at least one treat when we leave for work. I  had a foster dog that weight 22.6 lbs.We cut her food down, walked her and she left me 4 months later have lost 7lbs!!!  It is hard not to give them treats, but boiled chicken breast, cut in pieces are the best. If you use green beans, please buy the ones with no salt and not to many carrots, they contain sugar. I have years of experience with my own dogs and fosters and I stick by these rules and they all have a great coat and are healthy. Manuela for CCDR

I was feeding my dogs Royal Canine, because it was for doxies.  However, my doxies are overweight.  I have been feeding them a cup of dogfood a day.  One is 20 pounds and the overweight one is probably 35 pounds.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
