One of the things I've loved is watching the psychology of the boxer. My folks still live in the house where I grew up which was a long ranch style -- bedrooms at the end of a long hall, living room at the other end. Dad being dad didn't like the dogs on the rugs. So when dad was home (he traveled during the week), the dogs didn't get on the rugs. BUT every once in a while there was some slight evidence (throw rug not smooth, warm spot) whatever dog had slept in the hallway.
After my sister and I moved out, I gave mother a pup from a litter I bred. By this time, Maggie was allowed on the rug. She was a deep reverse brindle. Again, a few times Mom found her in the hallway instead of next to Mom's bed and wondered why. Until the night MOM heard a noise outside, got up and realized Maggie was in the hallway ... Putting herself on guard of the bedrooms.
