I haven't -- basically I'm to the point where *I* don't have the agility
to handle it! However, I have a friend who has two currently active
boxers (and her "sorta" boxer -- so what if he's hairy and black and
white?) and the dogs LOVE IT. Boxers are a working breed. Sure, listed
by AKC as "Guard and Companion Dog" and they generally take that Guard
part seriously. But agility lets them do that Companion Dog with their
beloved people. They make a big game of it.
I've trained obedience. Boxers can be a bit harder ... it's like "Is
there a reason I'm doing this?" I had a dog, too smart for either of us,
who Would Not leash train. Seriously. Lead on and he was bucking and
pulling like a wild pony. I had a friend whose kids wanted to meet my
"pup" and she said "Just bring him over." So, lead on, fight fight fight
-- picked him up and put him in the car. Out of the car at her house ...
fight fight ... WAIT There are KIDS HERE! They want to PLAY. SO if I
wear a lead Fun Stuff Happens? Cool! At that point, lead broke. And
I'm not exaggerating. Every time I've had one that just couldn't seem to
understand or pick up what I was asking ... they wanted a reason why
THEY should do THAT. Make it fun. Make it a game. Lots of Praise. Don't
over do the training and you'll both have a good time.
