Re: [boxer lovers] Too Small??

My first boxer I rescued from a litter that she was being pushed aside because she was the smallest and she was 2.6 lbs at 8 weeks when her siblings were 10 lbs....she had some issues with bacterial infections too but I treated her and babied her and she did fine...she ended up to be about 60 lbs...  My last litter the smallest one wasn't that small at 8 weeks but she was little I just watched her and made sure she ate as much as she wanted each time...hand fed all the pups to be sure they all got enough and she steadily grew and was good size when she went to her new home...though still smaller than the rest...

If she has been seen by a Vet and he/she seemed to think she was ok then there is probably not any reason why if fed good healthy dog food she should not grow normally and may just be a smaller boxer...you can put some plain regular (not low fat) yogurt in her food like a tablespoon per 1/2  cup of food....to give a creamy taste and look....and soften it with "canned goat milk" diluted half and half with water to help her along...do it a little at a time though cause it can make her stool soft if put too much too fast...she should be abe to eat tiny pieces of steamed chicken or roasted turkey tooo....canned pumpkin (about a tablespoon per 1/2 cup of food) is good for putting in their food also especially if their stool is too soft...but be sure it is plain canned pumpkin not one that is a pie filling with spices in it...You can put what is not used in an ice tray and freeze it to be ready to use later...I also made unseasoned, steamed chicken
hindquarters without skin and bones ,of course, and gave a little bit of that to mine too... I still give them a deboned, leg or thigh each evening..I have three grown boxers and one pup.   I cook a 10 lb bag of hindquarters in a 6 quart dutch oven on top of the stove on medium to low heat until cooked...and pour off the juice it makes, then store it in the fridge remove cooled hard fat on top and you have pure chicken broth to add to food or use yourself for your own cooking....and have it to give them some each night....you can freeze what you don't use quickly and thaw as needed...Maggie use to love chicken and turkey when she was really little and she still does now even when she doesn't want anything else...she is 6 years old now..her daughter BlueBelle is 4...Marcus is 5 and their daughter, Keta, is almost 4 mo.  This is what I do...and have done since we first got Maggie at 2.6 lbs...she was 8 weeks also...use what you feel helps your
baby...just remember to not make too many changes at once...and use smaller amounts to begin with...to get her use to the new additions...

I included pics of my dogs...Maggie when we first got her and now and Lil Bit showing how small she was compared to the rest of the litter but I made sure she got milk until she could eat and then hand fed her...and pic of her when I took her to meet her new owner...  Marcus and Boo (BlueBelle) and the last puppy I have left of the 9... Keta...

Hope this is helpful

Subject: [boxer lovers] Too Small??

Hi I picked up my beautiful baby girl yesterday she is 8weeks old. I took her to meet her new vet today and got her weighed. she weighed in at 2.8kg and was wondering if that seemed a tad small? The vet said she looked fine and she would double weight with in 4 weeks. I have had two boxers before Leila but just cant remember them being so little..
